Venus and Mars Bibliography:
The album "Venus and Mars" is the fourth album by Wings and was released in May 1975.Released as the follow-up to the enormously successful "Band on the Run", "Venus and Mars" continued Wings' string of success and would lead to a year-long worldwide tour.
After recording "Band on the Run" as a 3-piece with Linda and guitarist Denny Laine, Paul added Jimmy McCulloch on lead guitar and Geoff Britton on drums to the Wings line up in 1974. Having written several new songs for the next album, Paul decided upon New Orleans, as the recording venue, and Wings headed there in January 1975.But unfortunately as soon as the sessions began, the personality clash that had been visible between McCulloch and Britton during the 1974 sessions in Nashville became more pronounced, and Britton - after a six month stay - quit Wings.Replacement, American Joe English, was quickly auditioned and hired to finish the album.
John Lennon, had told his then girlfriend, that he planned to visit the McCartney's during the recording sessions for "Venus and Mars", but this was not to be due to his reconciliation with with Yoko Ono.
The album was initially released with 13 tracks with future releases adding bonus tracks. The album achieved N0.1 status in the worldwide charts including the Uk and US where it reached Platinum status.
